I was born on 18 of December 1960 in Novosibirsk. In 1977 I finished secondary school and entered the Department of Biology and Soil Science of Tomsk State University. I graduated from University with honor in 1982. Two years from 1982 to 1984 I spent in Soviet Army. Since 1984 I have been working in the Central Siberian botanical garden SD RAS: since 1984 to 1987 - as laboratory assistant, then in 1988 - 1989 as junior researcher, in 1989-1990 as researcher, in 1991-1995 as senior researcher and since 1996 to nowadays - head of laboratory.
In 1989 I received "kandidatskaya" degree (analog of PhD) in the Central Siberian botanical garden SD RAS for my work "Structure and ecology of Salair aspen forests". In 1996 I received an academic rank of senior research worker.
I am the author of 56 scientific works in botany, plant ecology and conservation. My main scientific interest is connected with the problems of dynamics, structure and conservation of vegetation cover.
Since 1993 I have been reading a course of lectures devoted to forest and bog ecosystems in Novosibirsk State University (NSU). Annually during two or three months I guide field practice of the students. Under my direction few students' diploma and PhD works in NSU and in Novosibirsk Pedagogical University were made. Annually I read lectures for schoolchildren about problems of nature protection. I am a co-author of the new textbook in botany for the secondary school. For last few years (since 1995) I have working with complex Russian-German excursion about soils and vegetation diversity of the South-Western Siberia.
In the field of practical conservation I spent six years working with "Bargusinsky" and "Kuznetsky Alatau" natural reserves on the creation of landscape-ecological cadastre - list of landscape and community diversity and allocation of the most valuable natural objects; I work as scientific adviser in Ecological club NSU - nongovernmental ecological organization. Now I am involved into international project about mapping frontier forests of Russia.
I had grants of Soros Foundation in 1993 - "Synecology, syntaxonomy and syndynamics Southern Siberian "chernevaya" forests as unique relict of tertial subalpin vegetation"; of ISAR in 1994 - "Creation natural monument in Salair "chernevaya" forests", Fulbright Program in 1997-98 and DAAD (Germany) in 2001.
In frame of Fulbright Program I taught a course of lectures in Humboldt State University (Arcata, California, USA) about Siberian forest ecology and conservation problems. In Germany I made a few lectures in Universities of Berlin, Kiel, Goettingen, Stuttgardt, Braunschveig about Siberian vegetation, it's ecology and conservation. By the invitation of Rubel Institute of Geobotany (Switzerland) I visited Zurich in 2001 with few scientific lectures and seminars. In 2001 by the invitation of North-West Scientific Association I visited USA (Arcata, CA and Seattle, WA) with scientific presentations.
I am a member of Russian society of nature protection and Russian Botanical Society since 1985.
Nickolay Laschinsky is a Council member of Siberian Environmental Center since 2004.
In 2004 he has successfully defended a Doctor of Biology degree.
