Региональный экологический фестиваль "ФИЛЬМЫ И ФОТОГРАФИИ О ПРИРОДЕ АЛТАЙСКОГО РЕГИОНА"
27-29 октября 2001 г., Лениногорск, Восточно-Казахстанская область
Фестиваль проводится Центром общественного развития "Барс" при поддержке ISAR "Программа периферия". Конкурс ставит своей целью с помощью экологических фильмов и фотографий повлиять на общественное мнение населения и привлечь их к реальным действиям сохранения окружающей среды Алтайского региона.
На фестиваль приглашаются все, независимо от возраста, вероисповедания, национальности. Участие могут принимать как профессионалы, так и любители. Кроме того, приглашаем на фестиваль города и села Алтайского Края, такие как Барнаул, Горно-Алтайск, Бийск и др.
Тема конкурса: "О природе Алтая". Участникам конкурса предлагается показать в своих работах жизнь Алтайского региона и его окружающую среду во всем ее многообразии. И просим Вас попытаться передать в фильмах и снимках о судьбе нашего края свой взгляд и мироощущение, чувства и красоту, и конечно же, надежду на будущее.
Номинации фестиваля. В фестивале будут работать 2 секции: профессионалы и любители по следующим номинациям: 1. Экологический ролик, до1 мин. 2. Новостной сюжет, 5-7 мин. 3. Фильм художественный, документальный, документальная публицистика - до 10, до 22, до 30 мин. 4. Экологическая фотография (обязательное условие наличие паспарту и деревянной рамки).
Оценка предоставленных на конкурс работ производится отборочным комитетом с 10 сентября по 20 октября 2001 г. Те, кто хочет принимать участие в конкурсе, должны прислать копию своих работ в формате VHS до 20 октября 2001 г. К фильму необходимо преложить сопроводительный лист, который будет включать в себя следующие сведения: продолжительность фильма (хронометраж), краткий сценарий, исполнители фильма - продюссер (заказчик фильма), автор фильма (сценарист), режиссер, оператор, звукорежиссер, а также кому принадлежит авторство заставок, композитор (если он есть), актеры, организации, принимавшие участие и т.д. Сопроводительный лист пишется в свободной форме. Фотографии высылать в формате 10 х 15.
Авторам отобранных работ будет выслано официальное приглашение на фестиваль. Те, кто не смогут приехать на фестиваль, могут только выслать свои работы.
Проезд поездом или автобусом, проживание и питание во время фестиваля будут оплачены. Победители получат призы на церемонии, которая состоится в г. Лениногорске.

NGO Forum FOOD SOVEREIGNTY
3-9 November 2001, Italy
The NGO FORUM on Food Sovereignty will be held from 3 - 9 November 2001, but we still don't know in which Italian city it will be held.
The Forum will start two days before the "World Food Summit: five years later" (WFS:fyl) convened by FAO (5-9 November 2001).
The objectives of the NGOs/CSOs initiatives related to the WFS/fyl are to: * Mobilize a public opinion and participation to demonstrate the need for urgent changes in the WFS/fyl process. * Assess the causes of hunger in the world today and identify strategic priorities among the many activities recommended in the WFS Plan of Action and any currently ignored issues; * Review action taken by governments and multilateral organizations, such as the World Bank/IMF, WTO and international development aid agencies, to implement the WFS Plan of Action, and to review the impact of their activities on food insecurity; * assess what NGO/CSOs have done to reduce food insecurity and present relevant case studies of effective field programmes and policy advocacy activities; * make practical policy proposals to FAO and member states and other international institutions to achieve the WFS goal.
In 1996 NGOs/CSOs formulated principles and concepts of food security - such as food sovereignty - that are now beginning to be accepted by some official policy makers. Today we want to go one step further and present successful demonstrations and alternative proposals.
We have identified five strategic issues on which to focus because we feel they are the keys to attaining world food security: * Right to Food - in relationship to international arrangements (e.g. trade), other relevant policies and domestic social policies. * Food Sovereignty - the right of the peoples of each country to determine their own food policy * Agricultural Production Models - agro-ecological, organic and other sustainable alternatives to the current industrial model including their impact on food safety; * Access to Resources - land, forests, water, credit and genetic resources; land reform and security of tenure. * Democracy and civil society involvement - community empowerment and the national institutional arrangements to foster its capacity and legitimacy are essential. At the same time, it is crucial that governments acknowledge their full responsibility and take effective action towards obtaining food security for all. The existence of international mechanisms should aim to support economic, social and political processes of democratisation at the country level, rather than encouraging their marginalization.
A major cross cutting issue will be how to protect the livelihoods of the rural poor and indigenous peoples in the context of globalisation, with attention to issues of discrimination including gender, caste and class, and ethnicity. (Guidelines have been prepared for the presentation by civil society of case studies to illustrate an alternative vision based upon these five strategic issues.)
The Forum is organized by the "Italian Committee", gathering NGOs from different sectors of Civil Society and working with a Core Planning Committee for the WFS:fyl, made up of NGOs/CSOs.

We will then consider your application and confirm by the end of October if we are able to invite you.
Please note that the invitation to the NGO Forum does not imply that the Italian Committee will make funding available for your participation.

SCENIC SUMMIT: ACTION FOR AMERICA'S COMMUNITIES, COUNTRYSIDE, AND PUBLIC LANDS
21-24 April 2002, Denver, Colorado, USA
Participants will include citizens and professionals who care about the future of America's landscape: political leaders, educators, community activists, landscape architects, business leaders, environmental psychologists, land managers, city/county planners, public agency administrators, Native American environmental leaders, researchers, artists, writers, and travel and tourism officials.
The Scenic Summit: Action for America's Communities, Countryside, and Public Lands will draw on leading experts to address how to turn best practices into common practice. Before the conference, a panel of nationally recognized experts, citizen activists, and business representatives will prepare a draft Scenic Action Agenda. At the conference, Scenic Summit participants will debate and revise the Scenic Action Agenda to create a collaborative "living document" to guide scenic conservation efforts in the 21st century.
The Scenic Action Agenda will detail specific strategies and recommendations to: * Bring the visual environment to the forefront of public awareness; * Strengthen citizen action and expand the scenic conservation movement; * Apply the analytical and decision making tools available in the field of visual resource analysis; * Make scenic resources a fundamental consideration in all public and private decision-making; * Develop educational standards, curricula, accreditation, training, and public awareness programs; * Draw public attention to the connection between health benefits, the economy, and visual resource management; and * Build partnerships for change.
Scenic Summit participants will learn about and discuss a wide range of topics including: * Smart Growth * Sign Control * Community Design * Digital Technologies * Protecting Working Lands * Visual Resource Education * Overhead Utilities and Telecom Tower Siting * Context Sensitive Highway Design * Beauty and the Bottom Line * Scenic Byways * Urban Forestry * Scenic Education * Resource Extraction * Viewshed Protection * Corporate Responsibility * Cultural Landscape Protection * Organizing for Scenic Conservation
Early Scenic Summit financial supporters include the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Federal Highway Administration (U. S. Department of Transportation), the National Park Service (U. S. Department of the Interior), and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (U. S. Department of Agriculture).
