ADMINISTRATOR POSITION

Job opening for an administrator at the Taiga Rescue Network, an international network of environmental organizations and indigenous peoples working for the protection and sustainable use of the world's boreal forests (more information available at www.taigarescue.org)

Location: The International Coordination Centre of the Taiga Rescue Network is located at the Swedish Sami and Mountain Museum Ajtte in Jokkmokk, arctic Sweden

Start Date: October 1, 2001

Duration: 6 months. Prolongation pending funding.

This position is ideally suited for a good team worker with a background in NGO administration and/or in environmental studies, who has 1-3 years of experience working in a non-profit organization and a strong sense of initiative. Fluency in English is required and good working knowledge of the Swedish language is a plus, as well as a proven interest in natural resources management and indigenous peoples issues. This position is full time with a salary of SEK 14,000/month (before taxes) and 5 weeks of vacation/year.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibility of the Administrator/Office Manager is to assist the coordinators working at the network's International Coordination Center, to take care of office related issues and to help facilitating TRN projects and initiatives.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

The Employee will be responsible for ensuring that the following administrative tasks are carried out. This may be done in person or may be delegated to volunteers competent to perform the tasks.

ЯGeneral Office administration ensuring that: 1.Travel and office insurances are up to date. 2.Bills are paid and cash transfers are made on time. 3.The computer system is fully functional and information backed up. 4.Reports and press releases are sent on time. 5.The outgoing mail is posted and the incoming mail is distributed to the appropriate member of the staff each day. 6.The stationary supplies are replenished whenever necessary.

The Employee will work with the TRN staff to organize trips. This involves booking flights and arranging meetings. Я The Employee will maintain the databases and other office systems, ensuring that they are up to date and accurate. Я The Employee will recruit and manage volunteers. This involves writing job descriptions for each volunteer post, placing advertisements on a regular basis, dealing with volunteer enquiries, helping with the interviewing of prospective volunteers, inducting volunteers and acting as the point of first contact between volunteers and TRN staff. Я From time to time the Employee may be required to undertake such other duties as the Employer may reasonably require, for instance language editing, translation, layout of documents, etc.

FINANCE RELATED DUTIES

Managing the cash flow of TRN Я Preparing management accounts each month Я Helping to prepare the annual budget Я Coding all income and expenditure to ensure that all separate project activities operate according to budgets Я Providing essential financial information including preparation of business plans for some funding applications, budgets, supporting figures and costs and financial reports Я Preparing financial reports to strict deadlines Я Recording all income and expenditure and promptly notifying the international coordinator of receipt of grants and donations Я Transferring monies to other organizations Administer Taiga News subscriptions

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Depending on her/his experience in project management and coordination, the employee may take on tasks related to TRN projects and initiatives.
