Karanasa regeli (Alpheraky, 1881) rueckbeili Avinov et Sweander, 1925 - the only representative of a complex Central Asian genus Karanasa (Satyridae) in the Dzhungarian Alatau Mountain Chain (the NE extreme of the Tien Shan).

A representative of a very complicated genus full of very similar species inhabiting the mountains of Central Asia. The Dzhungarian Alatau mountain chain, being the NE extreme of the Tien Shan, is at the same time the NE extreme of the genus range, where the only taxon K. regeli rueckbeili ranges. The wing underside in Karanasa is very nice but very cryptic on stones, while the upperside is quite spectacular. The Sargir River valley, the Usek River basin, the massif Tyshkantau of the Southern Dzhungarian Alatau, Taldy-Kurgan Region, E Kazakhstan. 29th of July 1994.
